I was going to publish a major post today - probably my signature post. I have worked on it for hours longer than I usually do. I have assembled material. I went back and forth through endless pages of online information. Once published, it will be the Twitter files of dissident Substack. So brace yourselves.
However, I sort of agreed to an informal NDA, which was confirmed to me when I asked to make sure. So we will all have to wait til a certain other Big Thing (well, a much bigger thing than the Substack thing, anyway) gets published. Once this happens - I hope within this month - then my new Substack post will be online.
In the meantime: I had forgotten that some really good pop music was produced in the late eighties. Time to put on your paisley shirt, get your curls out, and sing.
Cover: Tears for Fears, “Sowing the Seeds of Love” video still (1989).
Tears for Fears still alive. They released an album last year. Single was 'The Tipping Point'. But I suggest heading to 2004 for Everybody Loves a Happy Ending wherein the title song and 'Who Killed Tangerine' are delightful. Depeche Mode, yay, still happening. Delivered an album this year but my favourite of their modern era would be the 'John the Revelator' darkness from 2005. Duran Duran and Simple Minds alive and kicking too.
It must be weird being 60yr-old musicians watching modern movies soundtracking your songs from 40 years ago.
Thankfully, Roger Waters has remained relevant.
I managed to say all of that without mentioning a social media company :)
